Matthew Dearing

Matt has 18 years of experience in law enforcement and is currently assigned as a Detective Sergeant in the City of Schenectady's Special Investigations Unit. Here, he supervises and conducts narcotics investigations at the local, state, and federal levels. Prior to that, he served as the department's Training Sergeant, where he was responsible for directing and coordinating the delivery of department training programs (tactical & general topics), facilitating research and development regarding department training programs, and managing the department's Field Training Officer Program. Matt holds instructor-level certifications in Realistic De-escalation, Physical Fitness, Firearms, and several other topics. Additionally, he completed the Use of Force analyst course through the Force Science Institute.

Sgt. Dearing joined the Second Sight training team in 2022. Matt instructs the Threat Awareness for Law Enforcement program, the Situational Awareness for Safety course, and the Best Practices in Fieldwork Safety course, and was instrumental in developing and instructing Second Sights' new De-escalation: Theory to Practice course.
