Active Threat Assessment Training Offerings
(Instructor-led and Online)
Active threat assessment involves the identification of immediate or imminent threats. Based on social science research, our methodology allows the observer to focus their attention from a crowd to an individual or group of individuals displaying behaviors that may be threatening or suspicious. Through early identification, a preemptive action can mitigate a threat to persons or property. Trainees will also learn to identify and assess threat indicators - specific behaviors which may signal a person is carrying a weapon, trying to avoid detection, or is a threat.
Law enforcement, security, and military personnel are eligible to take our online and instructor-led courses.
Our active threat assessment training courses are designed for both individuals and organizations. Trainees learn our active threat assessment methodology and have an opportunity to practice their new skills. See our pricing page or contact us to get more information about instructor-led training (ILT), organizational pricing, and multi-license discounts. Interdiction (Instructor-led & Hybrid)
Law enforcement, military, and security are often tasked to observe and interact with threatening or suspicions people. Behavioral observation and active threat assessment must occur throughout this encounter. At SSTS, we call this an interdiction.
Our Interdiction course builds upon the initial 8-hour active threat assessment course. The objective of this 32-hour course is to provide students tools and techniques to conduct a safe and effective interdiction while conducting constant behavioral observation and assessment. This course is relevant to any police, security, or military personnel who has a mission to interact with others.
At SSTS, we believe an interdiction is a standardized sequence of events. To facilitate behavioral observation and the execution of safe and effective interdictions, we developed the Universal Interdiction Framework (UIF) to describe a law enforcement civilian interaction. The UIF captures the dynamic and iterative decision-making process of observations, assessments, predictions, planning, and actions which we found to occur during an interdiction. As a teaching tool, the UIF helps facilitate efficient, legal and safe interdictions.
